This week, I traveled to Columbus, OH - the capital of the state. I had two days worth of meetings in their Supreme Court Building. This building was built in the 1930's and went through a renovation about 8 years ago. What am amazing building! Really, marble everywhere, art deco (of course! it was the 1930's after all), incredible woodwork, hand painted murals...in a word AMAZING!
So, here is where the perspective comes in. Everyone in the meeting just drooled over the building. I have to say, it IS very impressive...totally drool worthy. But, I just kept thinking about the Manti temple and thinking, yeah, we have that. I've seen that. I know about that. Those murals are amazing. Hmmm...totally cool, wish this group could see the staircases. :)
I am so spoiled to have access to the buildings in Utah and Cache Valley. Granted, this building is on a much, much, much bigger scale but really! I'm in this gorgeous building (where the basement is worth the trip) and all I could do was compare it to what the early saints built in Utah. All those artisans who came west and shared their talents with us. Like I said, I'm spoiled to have experienced and learned to appreciate some great architecture. I love it every time.
I did take some pics, but I am writing this blog from the airport and don't have my cord or card reader. So, I'll post them sometime soon. And, I'll add a comment...I was very impressed with this building. I think you will be also once I post the pics.
